About

[8 Dec, 2005]I am, officially, no longer a medical student. Here's the speech I made at the Awards Ceremony. I can't express how heartening it was that so many people (some of whom I hardly ever spoke to) put so much confidence in my ability to give them a memorable evening. God, forever be praised, forever be thanked.

[16 Jun, 2005]I must've been 18 years old when I wrote this. It reads like the writing of some random 14 year old. It's all so jovial. I'm still jovial; yet I don't command the death of software nor address colleagues as "cool dudes".

Actually... I do. Why that is wrong I do not know and do not care. Quite honestly, why would you? 14 year olds are fun to be.

Also note: "and am a Muslim currently residing..." Some may find my unrequested reference to my religion of choice as an affront or arrogant on my part. True, I take pride in the blessing that is my religion. To me, there is no life separate from it. Everything involves it, and it includes everything in its sphere. I say this, though, because I love my religion; not because I hate yours. Things back then were so simple. There was no sectarian violence; no disagreements that couldn't be handled; no hate. Not in my little world. My little utopian dictatorship. It was easy. There was no doubt about what was right and what was wrong. Today, only Allah (AWJ) [God] knows where I may be had it not been for His Qur'an. With the knowledge of what my fellow Muslims do, and what is being done to them, am I really better off? Have I really done anything worth doing? Will I ever get anything worthwhile done? Is ignorance such a horrible thing? [/Furuncle]

If you really must know, my name is Uzer Sher Dil and am a Muslim currently residing at the male hostel of the Aga Khan University Medical College, Karachi, Pakistan as a 3rd year medical student. Otherwise, I spent most of my life in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and studied at the Manarat Al-Riyadh School (Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips taught Islamic Education here in my early days, but sadly never taught my class).

This site started as an outlet for my boredom during this summer ('02) and went live in August. The entire site is hand-coded using the humble MS Notepad (all HTML Editors must DIE!!!) via the skills I learned at the excellent HTML Goodies web site. If you think that HTML is for nerds and is too difficult for the average Joe Schmuk to learn then think again. If you start with the Primers at the aforementioned site you should have something up and running in no time. Learning HTML really was one of the few things in life that ended up being far easier than I thought.

Now getting to what this site is all about... To be honest I really don't know myself. As I said before I just made the site as a way to learn a new skill. But I guess you could say this is a blog plus info on stuff I love most in life namely Islam, computers and medicine.

Acknowledgements

Firstly, I would like to say Al-Hamdulillah because had it not been for the will of Allah (AWJ) I would never have been able to learn or do anything. Next, I guess I should thank my philanthropic web host and classfellow till the 7th grade, Adnan Ali, without whom this site would be homeless. I would also like to thank all those cool dudes at the Class of 2000 (MARS) and the Class of 2005 (AKU) who said that my site was... nice. Yessssss! Thank you!

Software & Resources

In case you want to know, the following is a list of the software I used to make this phenomenon of a site:

    HTML
  • MS Notepad (FREE with MS Windows 98)
  • Graphics

  • Xara Webster 1.0 (FREE with a .net magazine cover cd... By the way this product is now discontinued... it's that old) [Correction: It is still continued but under the name Xara Webstyles
  • Sites

  • HTML Goodies
  • Javascript City (for therollover effect)

Total cost = ~$0.00

Yes.

History

This site was officially launched in the month of August 2002. Initially I called the fairly unoriginal "MeAndMyself" (which was completely un-plagiarised from any other site, mind you). As such I had made the following logo

Old Logo

and divider
